Air travel have recommenced at Edinburgh Airport after a substantial ATC system failure brought the international hub to a standstill.

All incoming and outgoing flights were stopped due to an IT issue that arose around 08:30.

A number of travelers found themselves stranded in jets at the stand as the outage continued.

Flights Resume with Continued Disruption

The airport confirmed at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "cooperation and patience".

Nonetheless, significant disruption are likely to affect schedules. Flights to London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been cancelled, with a host of additional flights facing hold-ups.

An airport representative had earlier anticipated that dozens of flights could be disrupted.

"Flyers are asked to check directly with their airline for the current status on their booked journeys," was the consistent advice.

Cause of the Chaos

The airport attributed the full ground stop to an IT issue with its air traffic control provider.

Flyers should still plan to confirm the details of their flight before heading to the hub as residual delays are worked through.
